The exam consists of two papers designed for different candidate categories.
Paper I is intended for candidates aspiring to teach Science (PCM/CBZ), Arts, Hindi, and Classical languages such as Urdu, Telugu, and Sanskrit.
Paper II is exclusively for candidates applying for the position of Physical Education teachers.
Each paper comprises 150 objective-type questions, carrying a total of 150 marks, with a duration of two hours and thirty minutes. Importantly, there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
To qualify for the OSSTET, general category candidates must secure at least 45% marks, while the minimum qualifying mark for SC, ST, PH, and SEBC category candidates is 35%.
Candidates who pass the exam will receive a certificate from the BSE Odisha, valid until they reach the upper age limit for teacher recruitment. There is no restriction on the number of attempts a candidate can make to clear the OSSTET.
The weightage given to OSSTET scores in recruitment will be determined by the government. However, qualifying the OSSTET does not guarantee employment; it is merely one of the eligibility criteria.
“The eligibility for recruitment will be determined by the concerned recruiting agency or appointing authority based on all eligibility conditions prescribed by the government from time to time,” clarified BSE Odisha.
