The 47th Arrest in the UKSSSC Recruitment Scam: Kashan Khan from Firozabad District Apprehended as Police Continue Pursuit of Other Accused
Uttarakhand Police’s Special Task Force (STF) apprehended the 47th suspect linked to irregularities in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) graduate level exam, according to a police official. Police arrested Kashan Khan, a resident of Firozabad district, in Aligarh.
As per police officials, the STF team had been conducting raids in Aligarh for a week to locate and arrest the accused.
The UKSSSC conducted the graduate-level exam in December 2021 and announced the results for 916 successful candidates. However, in December 2022, the commission canceled the exam and results due to widespread irregularities uncovered during the STF investigation.
The Raipur police station in Dehradun registered a case on July 22, 2022, under section 420 (fraud) of the Indian Penal Code.
Senior Superintendent of Police (STF) Ayush Agarwal stated. “Following Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s directives regarding the UKSSSC paper leak case. We announced a reward of ₹50,000 last year for the arrest of the accused, Kashan Khan. Our teams had been making efforts to apprehend Khan, conducting raids at possible hideouts.”
SSP Agarwal stated, “Initially, with no success, I directed our teams to gather manual information for his arrest and devise a concrete plan.”
He continued, “A week ago, we received intelligence that the accused was hiding in Aligarh. We promptly dispatched a team to Aligarh for his arrest. After conducting raids for a week, we finally apprehended him from the Mohalla Jamalpur area in Aligarh. He was then brought to Dehradun.”
The police official noted that this marks the 47th arrest in connection with the rigging in the UKSSSC graduate-level exam. Overall, authorities have arrested 62 individuals so far for irregularities in four recruitment exams conducted by UKSSSC.
During interrogation, Khan revealed that he had been working as a printing machine operator at the Lucknow-based company RMS since 2018. He mentioned that his sister’s wedding was scheduled for February 2022.
“He admitted to stealing a copy of the question paper for the graduate-level exam while packing it, as requested by his colleagues Rupendra Jaiswal and Sadiq Musha, and handing it over to them. SSP Agarwal explained that Khan stated he had received between ₹4 to ₹5 lakh for this task.
After the matter came to light, Khan left his house to avoid arrest. He kept moving and stayed in various places such as Agra, Delhi, Ajmer, and others, the police official disclosed.
The SSP revealed that authorities have registered four separate cases for irregularities in exams. These include the graduate-level recruitment examination 2021. The secretariat guard recruitment examination, the forester recruitment examination, and the gram panchayat development officer recruitment examination 2016.
“In all four cases, the STF has submitted chargesheets in court. We have been making continuous efforts to arrest the culprits who are still absconding. Authorities have already arrested 47 of the 49 accused involved in the UKSSSC graduate-level exam paper leak case. Among the two absconding, one has secured a stay order against his arrest from the Uttarakhand High Court. Whereas efforts are on to nab the other remaining accused,” said SSP Agarwal.
